Seabound is Developing Technology for Docked Ships
Kalin Ned — September 19, 2025References: ccarbon.info
Seabound, a UK-based enterprise specializing in maritime emissions technology, has been awarded a government grant to develop an integrated system for capturing pollutants from vessels docked at the Port of Southampton. This initiative is conducted in partnership with an emissions control firm and the port's operating authority.
Seabound's venture into implementing such a technology involves deploying a barge-based apparatus that connects to ship exhausts. The innovation is designed to sequester a high percentage of carbon dioxide alongside nearly all particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
Seabound's solution may present a potential alternative to costly vessel retrofits or extensive port infrastructure modifications. The project builds upon previous successful demonstrations at other international ports and is framed as a scalable solution that can be implemented without disrupting existing port operations or requiring significant capital investment from shipping companies.
