Bike Friday's 'All Day' Uses a Uniquely Sustainable Propulsion System
Colin Smith — June 26, 2025The Bike Friday All-Day is a folding electric bicycle powered by the Bosch Performance Line SX mid-drive system, representing the company’s first Bosch-equipped model. Its ultralight configuration tips the scales at just 33 lb (14.9 kg) in the premium SRAM Apex AXS setup and 37 lb (16.8 kg) in the base model. The frame incorporates a unique “exoskeleton node” that allows the motor housing to pivot for chain or Gates belt tensioning, enabling a compact fold to 36 × 29 × 14 in in approximately 20 seconds. When further disassembled (battery removed), the All-Day can be stowed in an airline-checkable suitcase, facilitating mixed-mode travel and storage requirements.
Drive and configuration options on the All-Day include 9-, 8-, 12- or 14-speed drivetrain choices, such as SRAM Apex AXS wireless shifting, Shimano Alfine hub gears, or a Rohloff hub paired with belt drive. The integrated 430 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery supports the four assist modes up to 20 mph, with compatibility for a 250 Wh PowerMore range extender. A companion app provides custom ride-mode tuning, navigation, and performance metrics. Designed for touring, commuting, and leisure use, the All-Day’s highly configurable platform supports a range of accessories—cargo racks, lighting mounts and more—enabling tailored setups for diverse riding scenarios.
