Suat Batuhan Esirger and Rana Imam designed the ForestGuard, which is a forest fire sensor system meant to detect any danger within a short amount of time. It aims to save forests from any wildfires to come with its award-winning system. Using IoT-based satellite-connected systems, it can detect fires in real-time.
These sensors are wrapped onto tree trunks using elastic straps so that it does not compromise the tree's growth. It is flexible as well, ensuring that it will not harm nature. The device is fixed at 3 meters in height and can be placed about 16 hectares from one another to detect fires. The ForestGuard is developed with machine-learning algorithms to understand smoke's sources.
