Signify has introduced Europe’s first LED fluorescent tube made with 40% post-consumer recycled plastic, offering a sustainable alternative for commercial lighting. The Philips 'MASTER LEDtube T8' uses plastic sourced from discarded items like water bottles and fishing nets, reducing dependence on virgin materials. The product retains premium performance -- up to 185 lumens per watt with a 75,000-hour lifespan -- and is shatterproof and mercury-free. Each tube can cut around 1.17 metric tons of CO₂ over its lifetime compared to a traditional fluorescent lamp. Signify has also used 80% recycled paper in the packaging. The company plans to extend recycled content across its entire MASTER T8 portfolio, beginning with launches in Europe and later in Asia. The new LED tube aligns with EU regulations to improve product recyclability and reduce carbon footprints.

This launch enhances Signify’s competitive edge in sustainable lighting. It may accelerate green procurement among public sector and ESG-focused customers while increasing pressure on rivals to lower material impact.
