Low-Carbon Grocery Store Vegetables
The Tesco Low-Carbon Concept Farm is Now Providing Produce
Michael Hemsworth — September 26, 2025The Tesco low-carbon concept farm located in Lincolnshire is now providing produce to the grocer in the form of broccoli and purple sprouting broccoli as part of the brand's commitment to supporting sustainable agriculture.
The crops have been grown with peat-free soil in glass greenhouses before being transferred to the farm, which is intended to reduce the carbon footprint of the produce. The crop is grown by TH Clements, while the farm comes as part of the grocer's two-step plan to prioritize innovation at the farm level to improve efficiencies, reduce carbon emissions and help restore the natural balance.
Head of Sustainable Agriculture and Fisheries Natalie Smith spoke on the produce coming from the Tesco low-carbon concept farm saying, "It’s great to see the first fresh vegetables from our low carbon concept farm now being stocked in Tesco stores across the UK. One of the aims of the farm is to test and learn from a variety of low carbon approaches, which in turn can de-risk the process for other farms in our supply chain and further afield."
