Target has earned a spot among the 'Green Giants,' companies generating over $1 billion annually from products centered on sustainability or social good. Much of this recognition stems from its "Made to Matter" initiative, launched in 2014 to meet the growing demand for natural, organic, and eco-friendly goods.

The program began with 16 brands across categories such as baby, beauty, grocery, and household essentials, featuring big names like Burt’s Bees and Seventh Generation, alongside emerging players like Shea Moisture and Zarbee’s Naturals. Each of the 20 participating brands had to tackle at least one key issue identified by Target shoppers: reduced sugar, waste reduction, clean labeling, sustainable packaging, or dietary support.

With more than 100 products curated under the Made to Matter label, Target made it easier for customers to shop responsibly while reinforcing its reputation as a retailer that blends business growth with sustainability.
