DHL Express has teamed up with Tusk, a conservation organization, to transport 17 critically endangered Mountain Bongo Antelopes from Florida to Kenya. With fewer than "100 left in the wild, these rare antelopes face threats from poaching, habitat loss, and deforestation."

To keep the herd together, DHL provided a special flight that traveled 7,146 nautical miles from Palm Beach International Airport (Florida) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Kenya). The antelopes were placed in custom crates and accompanied by a veterinarian, two animal specialists, and six tonnes of food to ensure their safety and well-being during the journey.

The Bongos have been moved to a 20-acre protected area managed by the Kenya Forest Service. There, they will breed in a safe environment before their offspring are slowly released into Mount Kenya’s forests, where they have not lived for over 40 years. Overall, this effort demonstrates a major step toward saving the species.
