Recycling Alliance Launches

The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance Expands Circular Solutions
Georgia Wray Norsten — March 1, 2025The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance (PSRA) launches with a focus on increasing polystyrene recycling access across the U.S., led by the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS). The newly formed alliance unites industry stakeholders to achieve 'widely recyclable status' for polystyrene and expandable polystyrene. The initiative aims to scale up polystyrene recycling through strategic investments and infrastructure improvements while promoting its role in various industries, including food packaging, medical applications, and construction.
In collaboration with Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), the PSRA has mapped out a plan to expand recycling capabilities nationwide. Currently, 32% of the U.S. population has access to polystyrene recycling, and with industry-driven investments, the goal is to make polystyrene widely recyclable by 2030. The alliance will focus on building recycling infrastructure, improving collection processes, and increasing consumer awareness to accelerate adoption. The PSRA is launching a recycling investment and education fund to support these efforts, promoting circular solutions and reducing environmental impact.
