Samsung Electronics has announced a new generation of refrigerants that do not require chemicals. The new innovation, dubbed Peltier, was created through a joint research project with the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and helps cool environments without the need for traditional refrigerants. Notably, this solution outperforms standard vapor-compression systems. Samsung hopes the technology can be used in healthcare, semiconductors, vehicle electronics, and artificial intelligence data centers.

The new product aims to replicate the effects of refrigerants while avoiding potential harm to the environment, which often happens as the result of greenhouse gasses being leaked into the air.

“We will continue to drive research into groundbreaking technologies that shape the future,” the company said.
