Santo Mine Oia Suites Won the LEED Gold Certification Award

Santo Mine Oia Suites, a luxury eco-retreat located in Oia, Santorini, has been awarded the prestigious LEED Gold Certification, recognizing its commitment to sustainable innovation in hospitality. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a globally recognized standard for green building excellence. Santo Mine achieved this milestone in January 2025 by implementing practical and measurable strategies in its design and operations. Key factors contributing to the certification include energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable site development, and the use of eco-friendly materials. The property also emphasizes low-impact transportation and indoor environmental quality, aligning with its broader mission of environmental responsibility.

Beyond its structural achievements, Santo Mine integrates sustainability into its daily operations. The retreat collaborates with local farmers who practice regenerative organic agriculture, supporting a sustainable food supply chain while enhancing soil health and conserving water. Additionally, the hotel has partnered with a bioenergy company to convert organic waste into biogas, which is utilized in its kitchens. On-site composting systems further contribute by producing organic fertilizer for the hotel's gardens. Other initiatives include the installation of green roofs to preserve local biodiversity and the implementation of systems to reduce energy and water consumption. These efforts underscore Santo Mine's dedication to creating a luxurious yet environmentally conscious experience for its guests.
