Sustainable Movable Homes

Superuse x Vattenfall Transformed a Wind Turbine into a Home

Superuse x Vattenfall have collaboratively transformed the nacelle—the upper housing of a decommissioned wind turbine—into 'Nestle,' a sustainable, fully furnished, and movable home. Introduced during the 2024 edition of Dutch Design Week, this innovative prototype showcases how circular design principles can creatively repurpose industrial infrastructure into functional living spaces.

To begin with, the nacelle was sourced from the Dutch company Business in Wind, following its removal from an operational wind farm. Although its exterior still bears visible signs of its original purpose, Nestle has been meticulously adapted to meet contemporary building regulations. As a result, it offers a fully equipped interior, making it viable for both long-term habitation and short-term holiday use.

Ultimately, this project underscores Superuse x Vattenfall’s shared commitment to sustainability and adaptive reuse, offering a compelling example of how design and energy sectors can collaborate to promote innovative, environmentally responsible housing solutions.
