Personal Care-Focused Upcycled Biosurfactants
AmphiStar and Kensing Enter into a Collaboration
Kalin Ned — September 22, 2025Biotechnology firm AmphiStar and Kensing, a manufacturer of plant-based ingredients, join forces to introduce a new category of upcycled biosurfactants to the North American market. Targeting personal care and household products, the two companies will produce and distribute biosurfactants derived through a microbial fermentation process that utilizes agricultural and food production waste as its primary raw materials.
AmphiStar and Kensing highlight the environmental advantages of the resulting upcycled biosurfactants. Their method is supported by a lifecycle assessment study claiming substantial reductions in carbon emissions, water usage, and overall ecological impact compared to conventional surfactant sources.
The collaboration between AmphiStar and Kensing also includes plans to establish a localized supply chain within the United States and to jointly develop a library of specialized, customizable surfactant molecules for various industrial applications across sectors.
