Chinese Zero-Carbon Zones

Boao Unveils a New Zero-Carbon Zone Championing Sustainable Development

Government officials have announced that a zero-carbon zone will be established in China's Boao region. This initiative, launched in response to global carbon reduction efforts, demonstrates how China plans to position itself as a leader in carbon neutrality and sustainable development.

The 190-hectare zero-carbon zone will include Dongyu Island and aligns with China's 2030 Nationally Determined Contributions target. Dongyu Island is also notably a permanent site for the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference. With efforts like this, China continues to spearhead Asia’s green hydrogen growth, sourcing 85% of its new energy capacity from renewables. With strong industrial infrastructure and policy support, Asia is emerging as a leader in green tech, advancing innovations in battery materials and biodegradable plastics to drive sustainable progress.
