Sustainably Designed Luxury Homes

The Zerocrete Prototype Home Uses Landfill Waste for its Design

Designer Coetzee has created a prototype luxury home built almost entirely from waste, proving that sustainability and style can go hand in hand. His EcoSpace project in Riebeek-Kasteel incorporates more than 55 tonnes of waste plastic, 38 tonnes of textile offcuts, and 15 tonnes of recycled glass. Everyday discarded items like coat hangers, bottles, and scrap fabric are repurposed to replace traditional concrete aggregates such as sand and stone.

At the heart of the project is Coetzee’s Zerocrete technology, which addresses cement’s large carbon footprint by using a low-carbon alternative produced in Atlantis. The result is a durable, eco-conscious building material that significantly reduces environmental impact.

The home has undergone rigorous safety and performance testing, with walls proven to withstand temperatures of up to 1,400°C, ensuring both fire resistance and strong insulation.
