CO2 Lock Unveils its Comprehensive CCS Pilot Project in B.C.
Kanesa D — December 19, 2024References: carbonherald & co2lockcorp
CO2 Lock Corp, operating under FPX Nickel Corp, is expected to launch a carbon capture and storage (CCS) pilot called The Sam Project in Northern British Columbia, allowing the company to conduct CO2 storage initiatives safely. This pilot will help the company achieve the necessary permits for smooth operations while also helping advance CO2 sequestration.
The Sam Project aims to securely and permanently store carbon dioxide (CO2) by injecting it into a sizeable ultramafic rock formation. Rich in iron and magnesium but low in silica, these rocks are well-suited for CO2 storage because they naturally react with CO2 to create stable carbonate minerals. This process will enable the company to store CO2 and support large-scale carbon mineralization. Notably, this project will also help boost the local economy by creating new job opportunities for residents.
