Carbonova, a cleantech company based in Alberta, has received $4.38 million in funding to build its Commercial Demonstration Unit (CDU) in Calgary. This funding comes from the Government of Alberta and Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Advanced Materials Challenge. The CDU will showcase Carbonova’s unique technology that turns greenhouse gases—like carbon dioxide and methane—into carbon nanofibers (CNFs). These materials can be used in things like batteries, plastics, and building materials.

Carbonova’s process is special because it uses less energy, creates fewer emissions, and costs less than traditional methods of making carbon materials like carbon black or graphite. By using gases that usually harm the environment, the company is helping to reduce pollution while making valuable new materials.

This funding is a big step forward for Carbonova as it moves from lab-based success to real-world production, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable future for Alberta and beyond.
