A comprehensive redevelopment proposal for Pilsworth Lake in South Lancashire has been put forward by Atelier Architecture & Design, a firm that is aiming to transform a former industrial brownfield site into a community-focused natural preserve. The project seeks to harmonize the area's historical significance as a 19th-century industrial water source for cotton mills with contemporary ecological restoration and recreational needs.

Key components of Atelier Architecture & Design's community-focused natural preserve include the introduction of walking trails, observation platforms, nature hides, outdoor educational spaces, and performance areas designed to facilitate community engagement with the landscape. The architectural elements — comprising a café, visitor center, shop, and boathouse — will utilize low-carbon materials and incorporate sustainable water management systems like rain gardens to handle runoff and enhance biodiversity.

Atelier Architecture & Design's design strategy specifically targets a measurable increase in local biodiversity by over ten percent through the reintroduction of native species and habitat regeneration.
