Cory Group Joins Forces with Imperial College to Drive Research

The Cory Group has partnered with Imperial College London to accelerate carbon capture and storage (CCS) innovation, marking a significant step in the UK’s journey toward net-zero emissions. This collaboration leverages Imperial’s extensive research infrastructure, including the country’s largest CCS research program, to support Cory’s ambitious decarbonization project at its Riverside campus in Southeast London.
Cory is currently developing a system that will capture around 1.4 million tonnes of CO₂ annually from its two Energy-from-Waste facilities. The captured emissions will be transported to the Port of Immingham and permanently stored in the Viking depleted gas fields -- making it one of the first major CO₂ shipping initiatives globally. This model offers a practical solution for facilities not connected to a pipeline, potentially paving the way for similar projects.
Beyond technology development, the partnership also emphasizes workforce growth in the CCS sector. With the potential to create over 50,000 jobs by 2050, Cory and Imperial aim to inspire future engineers and support career pathways that contribute to the clean energy transition.
