Cultivated Materials' cultivated leather has been developed by the brand as a type of leather produced from cultivated skin cells from a cow, which is reported to be the first of its kind. The material is vegetable-tanned and finished with a process that's both nontoxic and plastic-free to give it an eco-friendly and ethical edge over traditional leather materials. The material is being used by the brand for the Angelry leather jewelry line and identifies how its versatility could help to reshape the fashion industry.
The cultivated leather from Cultivated Materials is made with skin cells harvested from Angel, a cow who resides at the Sweet Farm sanctuary in New York State to further reinforce the ethical nature of the material.
