Deep Sky, a Montreal-based developer specializing in carbon removal projects, has announced the launch of a $50-million carbon removal innovation and commercialization center. The new facility, Deep Sky Labs, will be located in Innisfail, Alberta. It represents a groundbreaking step for the industry, as it is the first private sector initiative to develop scalable carbon dioxide removal technologies in Canada.
This state-of-the-art center will focus on advancing various carbon removal technologies, positioning Deep Sky Labs as the world’s first cross-technology project. By integrating different carbon capture methods, including direct air capture (DAC), the project is set to revolutionize carbon extraction from the atmosphere.
Deep Sky Labs is expected to accelerate the deployment of carbon removal solutions, attract investment, and create new opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors.
