Deliveroo has introduced a new, more sustainable takeaway box designed to help UK restaurants move away from traditional plastic-lined packaging. The updated container is now available through Deliveroo’s webstore and was developed through a three-way collaboration with packaging manufacturer Biopack and Sheffield Hallam University.

The box replaces plastic linings with a smarter paper-based design, using an innovative folding and sealing system that improves strength and leak resistance without relying on added plastic. The concept was created by apprentices Josephine Shaw and William Shaw, whose design uses additional cardboard folds to create a tighter, more secure closure for hot and takeaway meals.

Overall, the new packaging offers a practical way to reduce plastic use while maintaining food quality during delivery.
