Educational Clean Cooking Programs

SEforALL Launched an eCooking Kitchen Program
Georgia Wray Norsten — July 24, 2025Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) announced the launch of Tanzania's first institutional eCooking kitchen program, marking a significant milestone in the deployment of clean cooking technology across African educational institutions. The initiative introduces electric cooking solutions to replace traditional biomass and charcoal systems in school meal preparation programs.
The eCooking program targets 50 primary schools connected to Tanzania's national electricity grid, directly benefiting over 25,000 students through improved air quality and reduced health risks associated with traditional cooking methods. SEforALL partnered with the World Food Programme and Tanzania's government to implement comprehensive electric cooking infrastructure that eliminates indoor air pollution, reduces deforestation pressure, and creates sustainable energy access models.
The initiative supports President Samia Suluhu Hassan's ambitious goal of delivering clean cooking solutions to 80% of Tanzania's population by 2033. Beyond immediate health benefits, the program showcases scalable institutional clean cooking models with potential for expansion to over 5,000 grid-connected schools nationwide, positioning Tanzania as a regional leader in the sustainable energy transition.
