Fasken has announced its membership in the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), a private sector organization established in 2020 by His Majesty King Charles III when he was the Prince of Wales. SMI is recognized as a central entity for advancing sustainable transitions with a ten-year mandate, known as the Terra Carta, which provides an expansive roadmap for accelerating a sustainable future in line with global targets on climate, biodiversity, and the Sustainable Development Goals. By joining SMI, Fasken aligns its strategic priorities with internationally recognized frameworks for sustainable development and demonstrates its commitment to responsible business practices and proactive climate action.

As part of its engagement with SMI, Fasken is undertaking initiatives to measure and reduce its environmental impact, including the annual tracking of greenhouse gas emissions and progress toward science-aligned targets. The firm has set a goal to achieve net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040 from a 2022 baseline and is also working toward net zero emissions from Purchased Goods and Services by 2050. This commitment is complemented by practical measures such as energy-efficient infrastructure enhancements, illustrating Fasken’s integrated approach to sustainability within the legal sector and its broader operational framework.
