Hanyang University researchers have developed an advanced digital twin facility management system designed specifically for relocatable modular buildings (RMBs). RMBs are a sustainable and flexible construction solution in which prefabricated modules are quickly assembled, transported, and reassembled, reducing construction time, costs, and environmental impact while promoting safer and cleaner worksites.

However, managing modular assets for reuse and relocation over multiple lifecycles has posed significant challenges. The new digital twin framework addresses these issues by integrating advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency, asset tracking, and decision-making across the building lifecycle.

This innovation not only enhances the management of RMB projects but also establishes a foundation for wider adoption of digital twin technology within the construction industry. By enabling more efficient resource utilization and extending the lifespan of modular components, it supports both economic and environmental sustainability in modern building practices.
