HelloFresh’s Kochbox model incorporates several sustainability measures that focus on reducing food waste, lowering emissions and improving packaging efficiency. The company reports that its make to order system limits surplus ingredients and decreases household food waste by providing pre portioned components. Internal assessments indicate that HelloFresh customers waste up to 36 percent less food compared to traditional supermarket based meal preparation, and the company donates remaining edible surplus from its facilities to nonprofit partners. HelloFresh also highlights reductions in carbon emissions through a shorter supply chain that minimizes transport steps and prioritizes domestic sourcing. In the United States, the company reports a 63 percent reduction in emissions at its production facilities since 2019 and uses renewable electricity supported by renewable energy certificates.

Packaging remains a central area of sustainability activity. HelloFresh states that 90 percent of its packaging is curbside recyclable in most U.S. states and that 37 percent of packaging by weight uses recycled or reused content. The company applies a proprietary algorithm to optimize box size and insulation requirements, which is intended to reduce material use and improve transport efficiency. Ongoing initiatives include efforts to reduce plastic content, develop more sustainable materials and refine packaging configurations. These measures are presented as part of a broader strategy to lower environmental impact while maintaining food safety and quality.
