Hydrogen Power Projects

The UK Shortlists 27 Projects to Fuel Green Industry and the Job Market

A new wave of hydrogen power projects have been shortlisted in the UK, signaling a major step toward decarbonizing heavy industry and expanding clean energy infrastructure. These 27 projects, selected under the Second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2), are poised to transform key sectors like ammonia production, glass and brick manufacturing, and sustainable aviation fuel, each traditionally reliant on fossil fuels.

Backed by significant government and private sector momentum, the hydrogen sector is expected to attract over £1 billion in private investment by 2029. The shortlisted projects could deliver substantial environmental impact by replacing carbon-heavy processes with hydrogen, while simultaneously generating thousands of new jobs in construction, operations, and technical trades. Towns like Milford Haven and High Marnham are already seeing benefits from early-stage hydrogen initiatives.

The move reflects the UK’s broader strategy to become a global leader in clean energy, harnessing hydrogen to drive net-zero targets. HAR2 also supports skills development and regional growth, helping to reshape the future of energy in Britain’s industrial heartlands.
