The Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund is a dedicated Special Account established by the Province of British Columbia to advance the province’s clean energy sector and support its energy, economic, environmental and greenhouse gas reduction objectives. Funded through a levy on the final sale of specified energy products, the ICE Fund has committed over CAD 124 million to date, underwriting pre-commercial clean energy technology projects, the adoption of clean energy vehicles, research and development initiatives, and energy efficiency programs across British Columbia.

The fund collaborates with a wide array of partners—including universities, First Nations, municipalities and emerging clean-technology companies—to co-fund and demonstrate innovative solutions in areas such as bioenergy, solar, ocean tidal and geo-exchange systems, as well as desalination, smart grid management and waste-to-energy technologies. Through periodic targeted calls and performance reporting, the ICE Fund ensures that its investments yield practical demonstrations and scalable outcomes that contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and the growth of a resilient, low-carbon economy in the province.
