Kenya Airways Completes Its First Flight Using Sustainable Fuel

Kenya Airways has completed its first flight using 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), sourced from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) feedstocks derived from cooking oil. The airline has also backed its sustainability claims up with certifications in transparency and traceability.

“This flight demonstrates what collaboration and innovation can achieve. It marks a step toward practical solutions that lower our environmental impact while maintaining operational efficiency,” said Hellen Mwariri, Kenya Airways’ Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer.

Kenya Airways has rolled out several other green initiatives aimed at shrinking its environmental footprint. These include switching to reusable cutlery and tableware on flights, sourcing food and supplies locally to reduce transport-related emissions, and improving recycling programs to reduce onboard and ground waste.
