Sustainable Homeware Design
Lemon Peels and Bottles are Reimagined as 3D Printing Pieces
Amy Duong — October 1, 2025Lemon peels and bottles are given a second life through sustainable 3D printing that transforms discarded materials into functional homeware. By combining bio-organic waste with recycled plastics, the process creates bowls, planters, and decorative objects that showcase both texture and color inspired by their origins. The method reduces reliance on virgin resources while turning everyday discards into durable, design-forward products.
Each piece subtly reflects its past, whether through rind-like surfaces or translucent finishes, while embracing forms suited to contemporary interiors. Additive manufacturing keeps waste to a minimum, layering material precisely for strength and detail. With feasibility for local production, the concept highlights how circular thinking can be scaled into daily life. The project positions homeware not only as useful objects but also as symbols of how design innovation can reclaim waste as a creative resource.
