Japan’s 3D-Printed Lib Earth House Model is Based in Yamaga

In Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture, the Lib Earth House Model B marks a leap in sustainable design. Built by Lib Work Co., Arup, and 3D-printing firm WASP, this single-story home ditches concrete in favor of a renewable blend of earth, lime, and natural fibers.
WASP’s 3D printer layered the eco-friendly material to form the home’s curved, ribbed walls. Once printed, crews installed the windows, doors, and roof. The house is fully powered by solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall, running everything from air conditioning to a voice-controlled smart bath.
Equipped with sensors, the structure will be monitored long-term to track energy use, insulation, and indoor climate, showcasing how sustainable tech and natural materials can shape the future of homebuilding.
