Ski Boot Recycling Programs

LIFE RESKIBOOT Has Developed a Recycling Process for Ski Boots

The LIFE RESKIBOOT project, led by Bulgarian company Grifone and supported by the EU’s LIFE Programme, has turned old, worn-out ski boots into brand-new, high-quality equipment. Running from 2020 to 2024, the initiative collected nearly 2,000 used rental ski boots and successfully recycled about 70% of the plastic from each pair for reuse.

The outer shells and cuffs of the boots, made from a special type of plastic, were melted down and re-injected to create new parts. The team developed a mechanical recycling method, which involves grinding old foam and bonding it into new materials.

By 2022, the first 1,000 pairs of recycled boots were manufactured, tested directly on the slopes, and then introduced into rental shops for two full winter seasons.
