Mill and Compost Crew have teamed up to make food recycling easier and more accessible for households across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Through this new collaboration, the 'Mill + Compost Crew' program combines Mill’s in-home food recycling system with Compost Crew’s local pickup and composting services, creating a simple and sustainable way for families to reduce waste.

Food waste "remains one of the largest sources of landfill trash, with the average U.S. household throwing away about $3,000 worth of food each year." To address this issue, participants in the program receive a Mill food recycler that dries and grinds scraps into clean, dry grounds. Afterward, Compost Crew collects the material monthly or every other month and then processes it into nutrient-rich compost used on nearby farms and gardens.

Ultimately, the initiative keeps food out of landfills, prevents methane emissions, and helps communities close the loop between food, waste, and soil health.
