Amazon and Orbital Team Up to Remove CO₂ from Amazon Data Centres
Kanesa D — December 12, 2024References: techcrunch & amazon
Amazon has teamed up with the AI organization Orbital to test a cutting-edge material that captures and removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As part of this collaboration, Orbital Materials will deploy its carbon-capturing technology at one of Amazon Web Services' (AWS) data centers, allowing the company to trial the remarkable solution in a closer and more controlled environment.
The new material aims to remove more carbon dioxide than the energy consumed by the data center, offering a net reduction in emissions. The initiative is positioned as a more cost-effective alternative to traditional carbon offset programs, with the expenses associated with the material expected to be significantly lower than those associated with purchasing offsets. Notably, the material was designed to work with the hot air produced by Amazon's data centers.
