Drip Irrigation Reduces Water Use and Emissions in Coffee Production

Precision coffee farming is reshaping agricultural sustainability through the use of drip irrigation and digital farming systems. A new Life Cycle Assessment conducted by Orbia Netafim found that Robusta coffee plantations using drip irrigation achieved significantly higher yields while reducing water use, chemical inputs, energy consumption, and carbon emissions compared to traditional overhead irrigation methods. The study, conducted in Vietnam’s Dak Lak province, demonstrated how targeted irrigation and fertigation practices can improve resource efficiency while supporting more resilient coffee production in regions increasingly affected by climate volatility and water scarcity.
