Preloved Clothing Initiatives

Project ReWear is an Eco-Forward L.A. Grassroots Initiative
Debra John — May 24, 2025'Project ReWear,' a grassroots preloved clothing initiative based in Thousand Oaks, California, has made significant progress in its early efforts to promote sustainable fashion. In just over four months since its launch, the initiative has successfully diverted more than 1,000 pounds of clothing from landfills—a milestone that notably coincided with Earth Day 2025.
Founded by Kimberly Lau and Linda Young, Project ReWear was established with the goal of normalizing secondhand clothing as a preferred choice for environmentally conscious consumers. The initiative operates under the guiding principle of “making secondhand second nature.”
At the heart of its efforts is 'The Landfill Project,' an in-store program where customers can purchase curated, gently used garments and see the tangible impact of their choices by tracking the pounds of textile waste saved. Additional engagement includes promotional incentives, such as a visual display resembling a garbage truck, encouraging participation through education and community involvement.
