Collaborative Clean Mining Initiatives

During Mongolia’s National Mining Week, the Mongolian National Mining Association (MNMA) announced its adoption of Canada’s Sustainable Mining Initiative, known as the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative. Developed by the Mining Association of Canada, TSM is a performance system designed to enhance environmental and social practices in the mining sector. The initiative provides a standardized set of indicators and performance metrics that enable companies to measure, validate, and publicly report on their sustainability practices. By adopting this framework, MNMA and its affiliated companies aim to improve accountability and transparency in their operations.

The TSM initiative emphasizes the independent evaluation of environmental and social performance through a detailed set of criteria. This framework covers aspects such as pollution management, energy efficiency, water quality, community engagement, and overall safety in mining operations. Through the implementation of these performance indicators, the initiative seeks to align the mining practices in Mongolia with international standards of sustainability and responsible resource management. The adoption of Canada’s Sustainable Mining Initiative by MNMA is seen as a proactive measure to drive improvements in the sustainability of Mongolia’s mining sector while supporting global efforts to address environmental and social challenges.
