Sustainable Vinyl Record Productions

Media manufacturing company Sonopress has initiated production of a new type of sustainable vinyl record, branded as EcoRecord®. Marketed as "the world’s first long-playing (LP) record made from recyclable PET" instead of traditional polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the product borrows the necessary resin material from global chemical company Indorama Ventures.

The primary environmental claims of EcoRecord® include full recyclability and a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions during the manufacturing process when compared to conventional record production.

Sonopress' sustainable vinyl record is presented as a response to market research indicating consumer interest in more eco-conscious physical music formats. Initial production capacity for EcoRecord® has been established in the United States following a prior launch in European markets.
