Koa's Functional Drinks Give New Life to Chocolate Production Waste

It's estimated that 70% of the cacao fruit is discarded during the chocolate production process, and Koa tackles waste across the industry with functional vitamin shots made with upcycled cacao pulp. These first-of-their-kind vitamin shots made with cacao fruit juice have been developed in varieties that are energizing (Energize, with cold brew coffee, maca, chilli and lime,) and immune-boosting (Boost, with ginger, tulsi, lemon and yuzu) alongside a classic pure cacao fruit flavor that's naturally packed with antioxidant properties.

The Cologne-based startup is set to unveil its beverage innovation at the upcoming Anuga trade fair. Beyond tackling industry waste and repurposing an abundant by-product, these vitamin shots will help to create a second income for smallholder farmers in Ghana.
