Onboard Marine Carbon Capture

Seabound has installed its novel compact carbon capture system aboard a commercial vessel dedicated to transporting cement. The project is made possible with the involvement of Hartmann Group, InterMaritime Group, and Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe. Seabound's technology utilizes a chemical process that converts exhaust emissions into solid limestone, which is stored on the ship and subsequently delivered to a cement production facility for use as a raw material. Thus, the captured carbon becomes a valuable input for manufacturing net-zero concrete at a specialized plant in Norway, which already operates a large-scale carbon capture and storage system. Seabound's implementation of its innovative compact carbon capture system represents a practical integration of emissions capture within maritime logistics, directly linking the decarbonization of shipping with the circular economy of the cement industry.
