Domestic Korean Carbonated Beverages

Chilsung Cider is now the first Korean soft drink to be sold in bottles made entirely from recycled plastic.

Lotte Chilsung Beverage recently announced the launch of a 500 mL bottle of Chilsung Cider created entirely from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate). The bottles are produced using a physical recycling process that involves collecting, crushing, washing, and melting used plastics to form new bottles; all without using any new plastic materials.

This development is the result of the company’s effort to get ahead of upcoming environmental regulations set by Korea’s Ministry of Environment. Beginning next year, a revised version of the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources will require beverage manufacturers that use more than 5,000 tons of PET bottles per year to include at least 10% recycled content in their production.
