Packaging Deposit Vending Machines
These Deposit Return Vending Machines are Being Trialled
Michael Hemsworth — September 3, 2025Keep Scotland Beautiful and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) have partnered for deposit return vending machines as part of an initiative to encourage students to return packaging for a deposit. The trial will see bottles and cans worth 20p each upon being deposited into the reverse vending machines to encourage consumers to be more mindful of their disposal choices. The financial incentive has already proven a worthwhile approach, which was corroborated by findings in a previous campaign.
Senior Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners GB Jo Padwick spoke on the deposit return vending machine saying, "Giving students the chance to live with a Deposit Return Scheme – something that will soon be a part of everyday life – will allow us to see first-hand how people interact with RVMs in reality. Hearing directly from students over four weeks will give us honest, human insight into both the practical and behavioural barriers to adoption, as well as what really motivates them to take part."
