Eastern Michigan University has initiated a multi-faceted program aimed at reducing its environmental impact and modernizing its campus infrastructure. This effort involves a long-term strategic plan, known as the Path Forward Initiative, which is conducting a detailed evaluation of the university's utility systems and exploring new energy options in partnership with external consultants.

Concurrently, a series of Energy Conservation Measures is being implemented on the grounds of Eastern Michigan University. These are targeting a specific reduction in energy consumption per square foot. The university is also executing various capital improvements, including repairs to utility tunnels, replacements for aging boiler systems, and the demolition of older residence halls.

The practical upgrades stemming from the Path Forward Initiative are complemented by an institutional goal to improve its standing within a national sustainability tracking system for higher education.
