UNDP Launches a Climate-Resilient Food Systems Project in Jordan
Georgia Wray Norsten — April 25, 2025The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched a landmark initiative to reinforce the resilience and sustainability of food systems in Jordan. This new project addresses the escalating impact of climate change -- particularly heat waves, water scarcity, and declining agricultural yields -- that is increasingly undermining food security in the region.
The program aims to strengthen local food systems and support Jordan’s National Food Security Strategy through a combination of policy innovation, governance reform, and community-based solutions. Key goals include improving smallholder farming practices, enhancing access to climate-smart technologies, and ensuring more efficient water use. The initiative will also integrate the voices of local stakeholders, ensuring that proposed solutions reflect real-world needs.
With the MENA region facing mounting climate and humanitarian pressures, this program could serve as a replicable blueprint for other countries looking to fortify their food supply chains against climate disruption.
