Hyundai Motor Group is partnering with Pertamina and the West Java Provincial Government to develop a waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) ecosystem in Indonesia—the Group’s first W2H project outside Korea. The initiative aims to convert waste into clean hydrogen energy, supporting Indonesia’s sustainability goals. By 2027, Hyundai plans to launch an on-site hydrogen refueling station using Pertamina’s existing compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure, enabling efficient local hydrogen supply.

This project builds on Hyundai’s successful W2H model in Korea, where waste is used to produce hydrogen fuel for eco-friendly transportation. Hyundai’s involvement aligns with Indonesia’s National Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap, unveiled at the April 2025 summit in Jakarta. Developed with support from government ministries, the roadmap outlines the country’s hydrogen strategy. Hyundai’s leadership highlighted its long-term commitment to hydrogen energy during the summit, reinforcing its role in Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
