Compostable Packaging Advancements
Legrand Adopts 'NatureFlex' Packaging to Reduce Impact
Colin Smith — February 24, 2026Legrand has announced a transition to NatureFlex™ compostable films for selected product packaging as part of its sustainability programme, aiming to reduce reliance on fossil based plastics and improve end of life outcomes for flexible packaging. The move is described as aligning packaging specifications with NatureFlex’s certified home and industrial compostability credentials and with sourcing from responsibly managed wood pulp, while retaining barrier and printability characteristics required for electrical and lighting product protection.
The company frames the change as intended to support circularity and to respond to customer and regulatory expectations for lower embodied carbon packaging and clearer disposal pathways. NatureFlex films are presented as offering a range of moisture and gas barrier properties, heat sealability, and conversion compatibility that can reduce the need for multi material laminates and simplify recycling or composting routes where local infrastructure exists. Implementation considerations noted in industry guidance include supply chain qualification, performance validation under product specific conditions, and clear consumer labelling to ensure appropriate end of life handling.
