'Movistar' is Targeting 100% Sustainability in New Initiative
Colin Smith — July 17, 2025Movistar Team has announced its intention to become the first fully sustainable organisation in professional cycling, aligning with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In June 2020, the team measured its annual greenhouse gas emissions—approximately 175,000 kg of CO₂ from vehicle use and facility energy consumption—and committed to offsetting and reducing this footprint over the coming years. The plan includes sourcing 100 percent of its headquarters’ electricity from renewable sources, supplemented by on-site solar panels, and transitioning its support vehicle fleet to hybrid models to further curb CO₂ emissions.
As part of its sustainability roadmap, Movistar Team is also implementing initiatives to promote sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship within its local community. These efforts will be validated through the Seal of Recognition from Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITECO), marking a key milestone in the team’s journey toward carbon neutrality. By embedding renewable energy use, low-emission transportation, and community engagement into its core operations, Movistar aims to set a new standard for environmental responsibility in the sport of cycling.
