Net Zero Now Progresses on its Energy Campus in Alberta
Debra John — July 10, 2025Net Zero Now has completed environmental assessments for its inaugural energy campus in Alberta, signaling meaningful progress in the development of its low-carbon infrastructure strategy. The 320-acre site was strategically selected to align with the specific infrastructure and geographic requirements of both electricity generation facilities and data center operations.
This development comes at a critical juncture for Alberta’s rapidly expanding data center sector. Currently, data centers have "submitted applications totaling 16,229 megawatts (MW) of load capacity to the provincial electricity grid; in response to this surge in demand, the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) has implemented an interim large load connection cap of 1,200 MW, creating a significant constraint on growth."
Net Zero Now’s energy campus is positioned to directly address this challenge by enabling scalable access to reliable power in a location optimized for high-performance data center operations. The project supports both the energy transition and digital infrastructure expansion in one of Canada’s most active technology markets.
