A plastic produce bag might be in use for all of 10 minutes between the grocery store and the kitchen, making its decades-long persistence in the environment a troubling part of everyday consumer life, and Organically Grown Company set out to create a better solution in the form of plastic-free net bags. Made from beechwood fibers, the mesh bag features recyclable labels made of paper and helps to contain popular produce like citrus, onions, or Brussels sprouts.

As far as what's next, Joey Staub, product innovation manager at Organically Grown Company, says, “We’re working with a select group of retailers right now, largely based in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, as a part of our pilot program, and we’ve gotten a really good response."
