Reclaimed water is at the heart of a new conservation effort by Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, aimed at sustaining its 20 acres of display gardens during Kansas’ ongoing drought. The Reclaimed Water Project is designed to reduce dependence on municipal drinking water by using non-potable water sourced from testing processes at the new Wichita Water Treatment Plant.

While this water isn’t safe for drinking, it is suitable for irrigating gardens and will be stored in a temporary system that supports up to 100 days of watering needs. A high-capacity irrigation network will distribute the reclaimed water efficiently, preserving plant health while lowering utility costs.

This forward-looking project highlights Botanica’s commitment to sustainable gardening. By reusing available resources, it demonstrates how reclaimed water can play a vital role in reducing environmental impact during times of water scarcity.
