Shell Philipines is Upcycling Plastic Waste Into Bicycle Racks
Kanesa D — June 2, 2025Shell Philippines is championing the circular economy with the installation of 110 bike racks made entirely from upcycled plastic, transforming 3,000 kilograms of waste into functional infrastructure. This eco-forward initiative supports the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) efforts and forms a key part of Shell’s broader sustainability agenda. The first 55 racks were installed earlier this year at Shell Mobility stations, with the remaining units scheduled for rollout in Q3 2025.
Shell’s commitment goes beyond installation: by purchasing plastic credits from PCX Markets—an international platform funding plastic pollution cleanup—Shell helps finance projects like EFT Philippines, a Davao-based SME that transforms collected plastic waste into durable products like outdoor furniture and bike racks. The company hopes that this initiative will help it increase the overall use of recycled materials.
